You will be sailing the waters between two continents observing its unique living marine ecosystem. This area represents an important bird migration route and a fishing ground for killer whales and sperm whales. This area of Tarifa is the habitat of an inportant amount of marine mammals for either part or the entire year. Whale and Dolphin WatchingThis is an ecotourism activity that benefits both the impact on resource use and the cetacean environment, therefore providing the ideal setting for the development of environmental education and scientific research. In the Strait of Gibraltar, as stated in the Intercontinental Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2006, up to seven species of cetaceans can be observed. Resident species (can be seen all year): Common dolphin, Striped dolphin, Bottlenose dolphin and Pilot Whale Semi-resident species (presence depending on availability of food):Orca (between July and September) Sperm whale (mostly between March and July) Migratory species (using the strait routes): Fin whale (mostly between May and July) |
